Your perspective sets your direction

Have you ever noticed it is sometimes easier to focus on the negative rather than the positive? If you are the pessimistic type, chances are that during these extraordinary times, you are finding it hard to see the upside of this current situation.

There is a lot in life that we are unable to change. Thankfully, many of the daily dramas that we face are temporary. The fact we have limited contact with our family and friends as we are still in lockdown, the monotony of the daily grind, the negative feedback you got from a colleague, the terrible traffic you were sitting in (you remember these prior to the Covid-19 era?), the promotion you didn’t get this time round.

You can change your perspective to recognise that each drama in your life does not have to last any longer than you let it in.

‘No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it’ Albert Einstein

Your perspective is your most powerful tool in these challenging times. It is up to you to choose the perspective that helps you stay in control and remain strong. I remember when the first lockdown was announced in the UK, I felt a sense of powerless and worry about the effect it would have on my business. But I decided to choose a better perspective and look on the bright side of the situation and focus on what it was I could control. And so, we moved all our training online, we built stronger relationships with our fabulous clients and we are shared our experience with the outside world.

Here are 5 tips to help you focus through the right lens:

1)Step back and look at the big picture

Step back from your challenge and look at the bigger picture. Give yourself some time to pause and think about the things you can put in place to stay on top of every situation.

 2) Focus on your strengths

Focus on what you are good at rather than what you need to be better at. By doing this, you are changing your state of mind. By focusing on your strengths, you will achieve more, again extending your positivity.

 3) Maintain a strong body and mind

Keep your physical, mental, social/emotional and spirit strong. This will help you stay resilient. For example, keeping active will keep you fit; reading books or listening to audio will keep you mentally strong; keeping in touch with family and friends will keep your support network strong and of course taking a walk in nature and listening to the birds.

 4) Don’t inflame the negatives

Don’t focus on the negative aspect of your challenges but rather choose the positive. Focus on all the possibilities and solutions to your problems, not the problem itself

 5) Be grateful

Make a list of the many things you’re grateful for—the people, places and things that make your life rich and full, that bring you comfort and joy

These are very simple tasks to achieve and yet they will enable you to be and do so much more. Who knows, you could end up climbing mountains!
